What kind of Newspaper/ Magazine do you scribe?

Many people have told me that they would read English newspaper or magazine in order to improve their English standard. But of course many people just read English newspaper for information or read English magazine for leisure. So I'm curious about what kind of newspaper / magazine you subscribe (or usually read).

When I was still in HK, I subscribed Times and read South China Morning Post. Now I'm in the U.S., I subscribe Cosmopolitan and Investors' Business Daily. At first I subscribed The Wall Street Journal, but since it's pretty thick in context, I switched to Investors' Business Daily. I also buy People and US Weekly occasionally. Kee, gossip is always juicy.

I nearly do not read any newspapers or magazines when in abroad or even in English. Sometimes I choose English books(novels), but generally hate them :p

My pillow-magazines used to be ELLE but now I turn to <<Du Shu>>, of course in Chinese :p

Du Shu = 讀書 ??

Hannah, why do you hate English books in general????

Oh, me too.

I've tried hard to read some english novels. but i haven't finished a single one, haha.

I dun scribe news/mag.
[em07]

To Hannah: sometimes it doesn't take that much time, modern novels are pretty short and get to the point quickly.

To Fishie: so you don't read English magazines or newspaper? Or you just read it at school library?
i often got China Daily and Beijing Review during college life years before. and thumbed National Geographic in England 'cause the pics are more than words... [em04] I read Business Week for only 2 issues...and throw myself into deep, deep, thick, thick coursebooks study....

Ok, I scribed alot of magazines now and then, such as Newsweekly, Time, Fortune, Money, Sports illustrated, Maximum PC, Good Housekeeping, even USweekly(weired, is it? I got a promotion at that time when it was free) and OK!(Another promotion, ha). There was only one issue: I could never find time to read them. So many of them are still lying there with their plastic cover on, hehe.

PS: I was very curious about why girls prefer reading those colorful magazines line by line, or namely, picture by picture when they are waiting to checkout in every supermarkets instead of scribing one or buying one.

刀刀: deep, deep, deep coursebooks?! THROW THEM AWAY! Haha... You can still survive without the coursebooks... although, I do have to admit it: they look pretty nice as decoration on the bookshelf...
[em01][em01]

loveflower: business and sports are absolutely understandable... but Good Housekeeping???????? [em09][em09] By the way, I couldn't understand why girls under in front of the cashier reading magazinse without subscribing them either...
loveflower 2007-3-23 12:11

I thought it will be a good way to learn how those so called middle class lives.

丘灵 2007-3-23 12:15

Haha, from Good Housekeeping? Do you learn anything though?
loveflower 2007-3-23 12:34

it is much harder than those deep, deep, thick, thick coursebooks. Too complicated, alot of brands and details.fortunately, there is no such exams on that. hehe.

But some recipes are really good. eg.the Zesty Shrimp Pilaf from the most recent(March 2007)issue tastes special.

丘灵 2007-3-23 12:37

Brands...
[em02][em02][em02]

receipe for Shrimps?! [em03][em03] I'm allergic to shrimps...
