[b]BACKGROUND[/b]


In [i]Kino's Journey[/i], the protagonist, Kino, accompanied by a talking [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorrad]motorrad[/url], a [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brough_Superior]Brough Superior[/url] [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorcycle]motorcycle[/url]named Hermes, travels through a mystical world of many differentcountries and forests, each unique in its customs and people. Kino onlyspends 3 days and 2 nights in every town, without exception, on theprinciple that three days is enough time to learn almost everythingimportant about a place, while leaving time to explore new lands. Kinodoes say in The Land of Visible Pain this principle is probably a lie,specifically noting[color=Indigo] "if I stay any longer, I'm afraid I will settledown."[/color]


A phrase repeated in the anime and novels is [i]"The world is not beautiful, therefore it is."[/i] Kino's Journey explores what the anime director [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryutaro_Nakamura]Ryutaro Nakamura[/url] described as [i]"a radical sense of 'beauty,"[/i] [url=http://www.kinosjourney.com/tv.shtml][1][/url]and brutality, loneliness, nonsense, oppression and tragedy are oftenjuxtaposed against compassion and a fairy-tale atmosphere.
For protection and hunting, Kino carries a .44 single action [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolver]revolver[/url] (called "the Cannon", based on Colt M1851) that uses liquid explosive in place of [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunpowder]gunpowder[/url] and a .22 automatic [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pistol]pistol[/url] (named "the Woodsman", based on Colt Woodsman). Later in Kino's adventures in the novels, Kino also uses a semi-automatic [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sniper_rifle]sniper rifle[/url] (called "the Flute", based on Arisaka type 99) along with a variety of other tools including [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knife]knives[/url]. Kino is an unusually quick draw and practices every day before dawn.

小说真不怎么好看，可是在日本轻小说榜高居不下，还连续两年亚军，时雨沢惠一的另两部light novel《艾莉森》和《莉莉亚》都比这个精彩的
