btw does "Etoile" mean station? might be as i remember i had difficulty in recognizing it in the German part of Switzerland where everything was marked in french and/or german.
the most stupid thing was sometimes u d to communicate with people in different languages. when i flighted to basel alone, the customs officer stopped me and asked me for passport. i knew the airport was shared by both france and basel so they ve got different ways out. As i didnt have valid schengen visa and switzerland has visa waiver policy for british visa holder,i eagerly explained in ENGLISH that i wasnt going to France, instead, i was to switzerland. the guy spoke to me in a language that i could NOT understand at all!!!! i started to get very worried cuz it seemed he had questions on my passport and travel plan but i couldnt respond at all!!! it didnt make any sense and its possible that just because of lack in unefficient communication,i would be rejected to get into switzerland!!! when i realized he understood what i said in english but just responded in a different language,i regreted speaking english at the beginning!!!why was i supposed to understand french and german??? i should have spoken in cantonese and he would had found he couldnt understand, and then he would try to speak ENGLISH instead of french (or german?)!!!
some of french words look very different fr english ones which makes people who dont understand french have some difficulties in travelling in France or french-speaking region. eg. in the metro station, i was looking for an EXIT sign but there wasnt one samilar to "exit".the french word meaning "exit" begins with "s",like sXXXX........well,anyway difficult to recognize and remember....[em06]
