personally I like "hell", "damn", "crap", "shoot" more...  [em01]

but Americans DO say the word a lot, and it isn't that evil, as 阿一 put it. Mostly it's for emphasizing your speech rather than cursing people. They will tell you they curse you when they mean it. [em01][em01] So don't be shocked when they say ,"F--- you!". Maybe they're just meaning "dammit!". [em01]

(but it seems to me that Brits like the word "hell" more...)

记得《四个婚礼与一个葬礼》里,男主角和他妹妹 每每参加婚礼迟到都是满嘴飞f**k,简直“无与伦比”~ 呵呵
在英国很时髦的服装品牌FCUK,名字就耍了个小花招。

I really do NOT recommend using this word especially in formal settings and especially by a non-native speaker. It has long been considered as the most vicious profanity in English language although can be interpreted in different ways. Of course the higher above is one's position, the more casual he/she often is. But for the people in the middle class, use it at your own risk.

Just Do NOT use it!!!  This word IS evil.

Lots of people (including myself) are easily offended by the very sound of this word.  So, telling people not to get offend because of ‘this and that’ is a joke.  Nowadays, you can even see little kids throwing this word around in public.  What do THEY understand about this word?  All they know is that this word is powerful, offensive and they can abuse it to shut people up and put them down.  I must admit, I did use it once 6 years ago.  Yes, I felt good when I used it, but deeply regretted it afterwards.  We adults must learn to control ourselves – knowing something is bad and still do it is not the way.  Don’t try to find yourself an excuse for using this word. If you must express your anger, your excitement or your whatever emotions, use something else.

how about this...

as a speaker, we don't use it unless we're left with no choice

as a listener, we don't get offended when someone speaks this word causally... (they might not know what they're talking about, after all)
